Covering 13000 sqkm of wildlife area is Ruaha National Park. It lies 130 km west of Iringa. It is named after the Ruaha River, which flows along its border. The river is inhabited by hippo, crocodile and fish.

The park also has a big population of Kudu and Roan Sable antelope. The best months for game viewing here are in July and Novermber. The park has an airstrip on the western bank of the river.
